The IDC termination style means the receptacle is loaded onto the ribbon cable using a manual or pneumatic press — the slot blades pierce the insulation and make contact with the conductor in one operation. No individual wire stripping or crimping is needed, which speeds harness assembly but makes field repair impractical; a damaged wire means replacing the entire connector.
