BNC Plug for Coaxial Cable Termination
The silver-plated brass body and centre contact, combined with a PTFE dielectric, give this connector the RF performance and corrosion resistance expected from a field-grade BNC. The free-hanging, cap-style termination suits it for cable-end assembly where a soldered or crimped centre pin and a captured ferrule secure the braid.
The 1 GHz ceiling covers the full BNC band for instrumentation and baseband video; above that frequency the connector geometry starts to radiate and the return loss degrades. Silver plating on both the body and the contact keeps surface resistance low at RF and resists tarnish better than tin, though it will oxidise in sulphur-rich environments — for harsh industrial or outdoor use a gold-plated BNC is the safer call.
The plug uses a brass body and a brass centre contact, both silver-plated, with a PTFE dielectric supporting the centre pin. The free-hanging, cap-style termination means the cable braid is captured under a knurled cap that screws onto the body — no special crimp tool required, but the centre pin must be soldered or crimped to the signal conductor per the manufacturer's assembly instruction. The mating interface is a standard BNC bayonet, compatible with any 50 Ohm BNC jack, bulkhead, or feedthrough.
