SMB Jack for 4 GHz Signal Paths
Footprint and Termination
Surface-mount termination with shield and center contact both soldered to the board — the SMT pads must be designed to the manufacturer's recommended land pattern to keep the 50 Ohm launch clean. The snap-on fastening provides retention without a threaded coupling nut, which saves panel space but relies on the SMT solder joints for mechanical strength; board layout should include a keep-out zone around the jack to avoid stress from adjacent components.
Duty Cycle and Contact Life
Rated for 500 mating cycles — above the typical 200–300 for a snap-on RF connector. This points to applications where the jack sees periodic disconnect and reconnect, such as test fixtures, instrumentation, or field-replaceable RF modules. The gold-on-gold contact interface (center contact and body both gold-plated) keeps contact resistance stable across those cycles without the fretting corrosion that tin contacts would show.
