The adapter carries a 50 Ohm characteristic impedance, rated to 1 GHz with a 0.50 dB insertion loss, and is built with a silver-plated brass body and center contacts, PTFE dielectric, and a bayonet lock on both ends for quick mating.

This adapter mates with any standard BNC jack (female) on the plug end and any standard BNC plug (male) on the jack end. The bayonet lock on both sides provides a quarter-turn coupling that holds the interface under light cable strain. The center gender — female to male — means it connects a male-pin cable to a female-jack bulkhead or vice versa. It is fully compatible with 50 Ohm BNC connectors per IEC 60169-8 and MIL-STD-348; 75 Ohm BNC connectors will physically mate but the impedance mismatch will cause signal reflections above baseband frequencies.
