The 1-148167-5: This is the press-fit version — no solder wave required, which means the backplane can be assembled with a simple insertion tool and the connector is rework-friendly if a pin needs replacing.
The shell has 96 through-holes in 3 rows; 64 contacts are installed.
Press-Fit Termination — Assembly Without Solder
This eliminates the wave solder step and the thermal stress on the backplane. The trade-off is that the PCB hole diameter and plating thickness must match the pin's press-fit zone — typically 0.040" ± 0.003" finished hole for this series. The connector is through-hole mounted, so the press-fit pins anchor into the board from the component side.
