6p4c Right-Angle Modular Jack for Voice and 10BASE-T
The TE Connectivity 1-1705950-2 is a 6-position, 4-contact (6p4c) modular jack — the pinout used for RJ11 single-line phone and RJ14 two-line phone connections, and also for 10BASE-T Ethernet in older Cat3-rated installations. Through-hole solder tails give it a solid mechanical anchor through wave solder, and the integrated board lock holds the body down during the process so the jack doesn't float off the pads.
Cat3 Rating — What It Means for Cable Compatibility
This jack carries a Cat3 performance rating, which caps its usable frequency at 16 MHz. That's fine for POTS voice lines and 10BASE-T Ethernet, but it is not rated for Cat5e (100 MHz) or Cat6 (250 MHz) applications. The 6p4c contact arrangement also means only the centre four positions are wired; the outer two positions are unpopulated, so a standard 6p6c plug will mate but only the centre four contacts will connect.
Gold Contacts and Board Lock — Fit for a Panel-Mount Life
The housing is polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), a common jack material that holds up to wave-solder temperatures and resists flux residue. For a wall-plate or desk phone, that's the right level of retention.
