The 0.098" (2.50mm) pitch defines the footprint: the PCB header pads or ribbon cable conductors must be spaced at exactly 2.50mm center-to-center. At 3 positions, the total width across the contacts is about 5.00mm from center of pin 1 to center of pin 3 — a compact fit for a 3-circuit harness. This works well for high-volume builds but the connection is not reworkable — once terminated, the wire is locked in.
