18-Position DIP IDC Header for 1.27mm Ribbon Cable
The TE 1-215570-8 is an 18-position, dual-row DIP IDC header from the Micro-MaTch series, designed to terminate 28 AWG stranded or solid ribbon cable at a 0.050" (1.27 mm) cable pitch. The red housing carries tin-plated contacts and uses a press-fit termination, meaning no soldering is required during assembly. This is a through-hole, press-fit part intended for IDC termination, typically used in board-to-cable interconnects where a dense ribbon cable needs a reliable, reworkable connection to a PCB.
Press-Fit IDC Termination — No Solder, No Crimp
The press-fit through-hole mounting means the header's compliant pins are pressed into plated-through holes on the PCB — no wave solder or reflow step. This is a backplane-friendly approach: the connection is gas-tight but can be pressed out for rework without damaging the board. The IDC termination on the cable side accepts 28 AWG ribbon cable; the insulation is displaced by the contact tines as the cable is pressed into the header body. The feed-through feature allows the ribbon cable to pass through the header, simplifying daisy-chain or pass-through wiring in harness assemblies.
