What This 10-Position Buchanan Block Does
The TE Connectivity Buchanan 1-282856-0 is a 10-position PCB-mount terminal block on a 5.00 mm pitch, rated for 24 A at 300 V. It uses a rising cage clamp — the screw pushes a clamp plate down onto the stripped wire, giving a gas-tight connection across 12-30 AWG. The green housing is standard polyamide 6/6, and the side interlocking feature lets you snap multiple blocks together into a longer strip without losing pitch alignment.
Where You'd Use This Block
This is a power-distribution or field-wiring terminal block for PCB-mounted control panels, motor drives, power supplies, and HVAC controllers. The rising cage clamp is field-serviceable — you can re-terminate wires multiple times without damaging the conductor, and the specified 0.79 Nm torque (7.0 Lb-In) gives a repeatable termination. The M3 screw and nickel-plated brass clamp are standard for industrial environments where corrosion resistance matters.
Unlike a one-piece 10-position terminal block, this Buchanan uses side interlocking so you can build a custom-width strip — add or remove positions without changing the PCB footprint. The trade-off is mechanical: a ganged strip has a small gap between blocks, so for high-vibration environments you'd want a single-piece block or a locking bar across the assembly.
