4P4C Modular Jack for Handset and Legacy Telecom
The 1-338084-3: The 4p4c keying means the plug is physically narrower than a 6-position RJ12 or 8-position RJ45 jack, so it will not accept a wider plug, and a 4p4c plug will not lock into a 6- or 8-position jack without damaging the contacts. Rated Cat3, this jack is specified for voice-frequency and low-speed data links up to 16 MHz — not for Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet.
Vertical SMT Termination with Solder Retention
This jack mounts vertically on the PCB and terminates through surface-mount solder tails — the connector body sits upright, and the SMT pads reflow in the same pass as the rest of the board. The solder retention feature adds integral hold-down tabs that anchor the jack to the board during reflow and resist the extraction force when a mated plug is pulled out. Gold plating on the contacts protects the mating surface against corrosion and maintains contact integrity over repeated insertions in a field-service environment.
