Shielded RJ45 Jack for Industrial Ethernet and Data-Com Applications
The TE Connectivity 1-406541-9 is a right-angle, through-hole modular jack with an 8p8c (RJ45) contact arrangement, rated for Cat5 performance.
The Cat5 rating limits this jack to 100 MHz bandwidth — adequate for 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet over four pairs) in a structured cabling environment. It is not rated for Cat5e or Cat6 frequencies, so if the application requires 250 MHz or higher, a different jack in the TE 406541 family would be needed. The shielded shell and EMI finger are the key differentiator from a basic unshielded RJ45: they provide a low-impedance path from the cable shield to the chassis ground, reducing radiated emissions and improving immunity in electrically noisy industrial cabinets. Through-hole solder tails give the connector better mechanical resistance to the insertion and withdrawal forces of a standard RJ45 plug compared to an SMT version — a practical advantage on a production line where the connector sees repeated plugging during test.
