It's the male contact half that goes into the matching Multimate III+ pin housing — the stamped construction keeps unit cost down for medium-volume harness builds. If the harness sees frequent disconnect or a corrosive atmosphere, you'd step up to a gold-plated contact in the same series.
Wire gauge and termination — what fits
The 16-18 AWG range is the only wire size this stamped pin accepts — no fudging with 14 AWG or 20 AWG. If your BOM calls for a different gauge, look at the other Multimate III+ stamped pins (base product number 66099) that cover 14-16 AWG or 20-22 AWG. Same series, same housing compatibility, different barrel geometry.
