12-Position Power Terminal Block at 5.00 mm Pitch
The TE Connectivity Buchanan 1-796689-2 is a 12-position, single-level PCB terminal block built on a 0.197" (5.00 mm) pitch. Wire termination is via a screw-driven rising cage clamp (M3 screw, 0.79 Nm / 7.0 Lb-In torque spec) — the clamp lifts to capture the conductor, so the screw does not twist the wire. The housing is black polyamide (PA66 / Nylon 6/6), suited for equipment inside an enclosure. The 35° (145°) mating orientation routes wires at an angle to the PCB, which helps when vertical space above the board is tight.
Board Layout and Wire Prep
The through-hole mounting means the terminal block is soldered into plated holes; the 35° angle of the wire entry relative to the board surface is fixed by the housing moulding, so the PCB keep-out zone must account for the wire exit path. The wire gauge range of 12-30 AWG covers most power and control wiring; for 12 AWG, strip length and ferrule use (if any) follow standard practice for a rising cage clamp. The M3 screw torque of 0.79 Nm (7.0 Lb-In) should be hit with a calibrated driver — under-torque risks high contact resistance, over-torque can strip the brass insert.
