The 1-84984-7 is a 17-position, vertical FFC/FPC connector from TE Connectivity's 84984 series. The 0.039" (1.00 mm) pitch sets the PCB footprint and the FPC thickness it accepts — 0.30 mm flat flex cable, straight cable entry. Through-hole mounting gives the connector mechanical retention on the board, which matters when the cable is routed in a tight enclosure and sees occasional tugging. Tin plating is cost-effective for low-cycle applications — think once-assembled internal harnesses where the FPC mates once and stays. The 1 A ceiling keeps this on signal-duty, not power distribution.
The connector stands 0.220" (5.59 mm) above the board — a moderate profile that fits under most enclosure lids without crowding taller components. Kinked pin termination: the pins are pre-formed to sit flush against the PCB pad, which aids solder wetting and reduces tombstoning risk during wave solder. Housing is white glass-filled PBT, which holds up to the reflow or wave-solder profile without distortion.
