Stamped Pin Contact for Multimate III+ Housings
It is the male terminal that mates with the corresponding socket contact inside a Multimate III+ housing — the standard choice for power and signal interconnects in industrial control panels, test equipment, and transportation applications where the contact is loaded into a cavity and retained by a locking lance. The heavy 78.7µin thickness reduces the risk of the plating wearing through on the insertion stroke into the housing cavity. Supplied on Tape & Reel (also available as Cut Tape), this terminal is suited for automated crimping machines on a harness assembly line. The stamped construction keeps the per-unit cost low compared to a machined contact, while the brass base material provides adequate spring properties for the retention lance.
Wire Gauge Selection — 16-18 AWG
The 164161-3 accepts 16-18 AWG wire, which distinguishes it from the sibling 164160-3 that takes 20-24 AWG. If your harness calls for 16 or 18 AWG stranded wire — typical for power distribution at 5-10 A per circuit in a Multimate III+ housing — this is the correct terminal. The 164163-1 also carries the same 78.7µin tin plating but is packaged in Bulk rather than Tape & Reel, and it accepts 20-24 AWG, so it is not a wire-gauge substitute. For the same 16-18 AWG range in a stamped pin, the 163081-7 is a functional peer, also in Tape & Reel.
