What is the TE 164163-2?
The gold plating at 31.5µin (0.80µm) gives it the mating cycle life for repeated connect-disconnect in a harness — that thickness is well above flash gold, so it holds up in field-service applications where the contact sees multiple mates over the equipment life. The brass base material keeps the crimp ductile and the contact resistance stable.
The stamped construction means the contact spring beam is formed from the strip, not machined, which keeps the per-unit cost down for production volumes while still delivering the gold-plated mating surface.

The 164163-1 and 164163-2 are both Multimate III+ stamped pin contacts with the same 20-24 AWG wire range, gold plating, and brass material. The difference is in the contact finish thickness: the -1 variant carries a standard gold flash, while the -2 is plated at 31.5µin (0.80µm). For a one-time permanent crimp inside an enclosure, the -1 is adequate.
