16-Position IDC Receptacle for Ribbon Cable
The TE Connectivity 1658527-7 is a 16-position IDC receptacle from the 622 series, designed for mass-termination to 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch ribbon cable. It accepts 26-28 AWG stranded or solid conductors and terminates via the insulation-displacement slot — no wire stripping, no crimp tool for the individual contact. The 30.0µin (0.76µm) gold plating on the female socket contacts gives this connector a solid cycle life for repeated matings inside an enclosure or on a test fixture.
IDC Termination and Wire Range
Termination is IDC — the cable is pressed into the slot, and the insulation is displaced by the contact tines. The wire gauge range is 26-28 AWG, stranded or solid, which covers the common ribbon cable gauges for internal signal wiring. A standard IDC hand press or pneumatic tool seats the cable in one stroke; the strain relief built into the housing holds the cable exit angle steady against flex.
Polarizing Key and Strain Relief
The housing includes a polarizing key and a feed-through slot for the cable, plus an integrated strain relief. The key prevents a reversed mate against the matching pin header. The strain relief clamps the ribbon after termination, so the IDC slots don't carry the cable load during handling or vibration.
