IDC termination means the ribbon cable is pressed onto the insulation-displacement contacts in one operation — no individual wire stripping or crimping. The wire gauge range of 26-28 AWG covers the standard ribbon cable sizes used for D-Sub I/O. The free-hanging (in-line) mounting style with an unthreaded flange allows the connector to be panel-mounted with a simple cutout and clip, or left as a floating cable-end receptacle. The feed-through feature indicates the IDC contacts pass the signal straight through the connector body without a PCB interface.
