The TE AMPLIMITE HDF-20 1658613-4 is a 9-position D-sub plug with male pins, terminated via IDC to 26-28 AWG stranded or solid ribbon cable. The DE-9 (E) shell size matches the standard RS-232 footprint, and the free-hanging in-line mounting suits cable-to-panel or cable-to-cable runs where a backshell or hood provides strain relief.
Position Count and Shell Size Selection
The 9-position shell size 1 (DE, E) layout is the smallest shell size in the AMPLIMITE HDF-20 series. For more circuits, the same IDC termination and 1.25 A per-contact rating carry over to the 15-position 1658613-3 (DA-15 shell) and the 25-position 1658613-2 (DB-25 shell). The shell size is non-negotiable for panel cutouts and mating hoods — a DE-9 footprint does not accept a DA-15 or DB-25 backshell.
Grounding Indents vs Feed-Through Only
This plug includes both feed-through pass-through and grounding indents on the steel shell. The grounding indents contact the mating receptacle's shell to bleed shield current before it reaches the signal pins — useful in electrically noisy environments. The sibling 1658615-4, also a 9-position DE-9 plug, omits the grounding indents; choose that variant when shell-to-shell grounding is handled elsewhere in the assembly.
