25-Position IDC D-Sub Plug for Ribbon Cable
The TE Connectivity AMPLIMITE HDF-20 1658615-2 is a 25-position D-Sub plug with male pins, terminated via IDC to ribbon cable. It accepts 26-28 AWG stranded or solid wire — the IDC slot pierces the insulation and makes contact without stripping or crimping individual conductors. This connector is specified for signal-level interconnects where a mass-termination method saves assembly time over discrete soldering or crimping. The shell size is 3 (DB, B), the standard 25-position layout that mates with any DB-25 receptacle.
IDC Termination and Wire Range
Termination is IDC (insulation displacement) for ribbon cable — the connector body has a slot for the cable, and a cover or strain relief presses the conductors into bifurcated contacts that cut through the insulation. The specified wire gauge is 26-28 AWG, both stranded and solid. This is a one-step termination: lay the ribbon cable into the slot, press the cover down, and the IDC contacts bite through the insulation to each conductor. No individual wire stripping, no crimping, no soldering. The connector mounts free-hanging (in-line) — it is not designed for PCB mounting.
Current Rating and Signal Duty
Rated 1.25 A per contact. The 25-position density in a DB-25 shell means the contact-to-contact spacing is tight, and the IDC termination path adds resistance; the 1.25 A rating reflects the temperature rise limit of the housing and contact system under continuous load.
