10-Position IDC Receptacle for 0.100" Ribbon Cable
The TE Connectivity 1658623-1 is a 10-position, dual-row receptacle from the AMP-Latch series, designed for mass-termination to 26-28 AWG ribbon cable via IDC (insulation displacement) contacts.
IDC Termination — One Press, No Stripping
This is a free-hanging (in-line) receptacle — no board footprint, no solder. You terminate it by laying the ribbon cable across the IDC slot and pressing it home with a vise or an arbor press. The fork contacts slice through the insulation and bite into the conductor, making all 10 terminations at once. The feed-through feature means the cable can exit either side of the body, which is handy when you are daisy-chaining several receptacles along the same ribbon.
Gold Plating and Mating Cycles
Tin-plated contacts would fret and oxidize after a few cycles; the gold here keeps the contact resistance stable across dozens of mates. The fork contact geometry also wipes the header pin on insertion, clearing any surface film. If your application calls for a permanent one-time connection, tin would work, but for anything that gets disconnected more than a couple of times, this gold finish is the right call.
Wire Gauge and Cable Fit
The IDC slot is sized for 26-28 AWG ribbon cable.
