Sizing the Terminal Block for the Wire
The TE Connectivity Buchanan 1776112-4 is a 4-position, single-level PCB terminal block on a 0.138" (3.50mm) pitch. It terminates wires from 16 AWG down to 28 AWG using a screw-driven rising cage clamp — the clamp lifts against the conductor, not the screw tip, so stranded wire stays captured without cold flow or strand fan-out. The side-entry orientation (horizontal with board) keeps the wire path parallel to the PCB, which matters when the enclosure lid is tight above the board. Rated 12 A per circuit at 150 V, it handles control signals, sensor loops, and low-power distribution inside industrial cabinets, HVAC panels, and instrumentation enclosures.
What the Screw Torque and Clamp Tell You
The rising cage clamp uses an M2 screw (copper alloy, nickel plated) and the clamp itself is also copper alloy with nickel plating. That nickel layer resists corrosion in humid panel environments — a ring lug under a screw, done, but here the clamp grips the bare wire directly. The 12 A rating is continuous at the rated temperature; derate above 110°C per the manufacturer curve.
