What This IDC Receptacle Is For
The TE Connectivity CT 2-179694-9 is a 9-position, single-row receptacle that terminates discrete 24 AWG wire via insulation displacement contacts. Tin-plated female sockets mate with the matching CT-series pin header; the gray housing colour helps spot this 9-position member in a bundle of CT connectors.
Cable termination is IDC, which means the 24 AWG wire is pressed into the insulation displacement slot during assembly. No separate crimp terminal or tooling is required — the connection is made in one press operation. The trade-off is that IDC is a one-shot termination; re-terminating the same wire position is not practical, so the wire length and routing need to be right the first time. The free-hanging (in-line) mount suits this receptacle for wire-to-board harnesses where the connector sits off the PCB, terminated at the cable end.
