20-Position DIP Header for Ribbon Cable Harnesses
The TE Connectivity AMP-Latch 2-216093-0 is a 20-position DIP header designed for mass-termination of 0.050" (1.27 mm) pitch ribbon cable via IDC (Insulation Displacement Contact). It sits in the AMP-Latch series as a full-populated, dual-row, through-hole header — the workhorse part for parallel signal distribution from a PCB to a ribbon cable assembly. The gray housing includes a feed-through feature, allowing the ribbon cable to pass through the header for daisy-chaining multiple connectors on the same cable run.
Wire Range and IDC Termination
This header accepts 28 AWG stranded wire and 26-30 AWG solid wire — the standard range for 0.050" pitch ribbon cable. For a harness builder, the key check is that the ribbon cable's conductor gauge and insulation OD fall within the slot geometry — 28 AWG stranded is the nominal size this part was designed around.
The through-hole mounting provides the mechanical retention needed to withstand the insertion and extraction forces of the mating IDC socket. The feed-through feature means the header body has a slot that lets the ribbon cable continue past the connector — useful when routing a common bus to multiple board locations without a separate jumper.
