QSFP28 Cage with Integrated Heat Sink
The TE Connectivity 2-2170754-3 is a QSFP28 cage assembly with an integrated heat sink, designed for high-speed data center and networking equipment. It accepts standard QSFP28 transceiver modules, providing the mechanical interface, thermal management, and EMI containment for 100 GbE and 4x25 GbE links. The cage is press-fit terminated into a through-hole PCB, with a right-angle orientation that places the module insertion parallel to the board edge.
Integrated Features: EMI Shielding and Light Pipe
This cage includes an EMI shield to contain radiated emissions from the high-speed transceiver, a requirement for passing FCC Class A / Class B radiated emissions tests in switch and server designs. An integrated light pipe routes the module's link/activity LED indication to the front panel, eliminating a separate light pipe component and simplifying the bezel design.
This avoids the thermal stress of reflow on the cage and nearby optical components, and it allows the cage to be installed after the board is fully assembled.
