QSFP28 Cage — Ganged 1x2 with Heat Sink, Press-Fit
The TE Connectivity 2-2170808-2 is a QSFP28 cage assembly, ganged as a 1x2 configuration with an integrated heat sink. It is designed to accept standard QSFP28 modules for 100 GbE and InfiniBand EDR applications, providing the thermal and EMI management those data rates demand. The press-fit termination eliminates soldering — the compliant pins cold-form into the plated through-holes, giving a gas-tight joint that survives rework cycles without damaging the board.
Board Layout Fit — Right-Angle, Through-Hole
The right-angle through-hole mounting puts the cage parallel to the PCB edge, which is the standard orientation for faceplate I/O. The press-fit tail length and footprint match the TE application tooling — no special stencil or reflow profile is needed. The integrated light pipe routes the module's link-status LED to the front bezel, so you see the channel state without opening the cage.
EMI and Thermal Management
The EMI shielding is built into the cage — it grounds through the press-fit tails and the cage body, containing the radiated emissions from the high-speed module. The heat sink is part of the ganged assembly.
