The beryllium copper contact beam is the reason: BeCu holds its spring force through the rated temperature swing from -65°C up to 126°C, so the socket maintains contact pressure on a 0.037" pin at the cold end and doesn't overstress the beam on a 0.040" pin at the hot end. Contact finish is 30.0µin of gold over the base metal. At that thickness the gold layer resists corrosion through repeated mating cycles — expect several hundred insertions before the gold wears through to the nickel underplate. For a field-service connector cycled quarterly, that gold thickness buys decades of reliable contact resistance.
Solder termination with no tail — the socket body sits flush on the PCB pad after soldering, with no protruding pin underneath. The open bottom feature lets the mating pin pass through the socket body, which means the pin tip can extend below the PCB if the board has a clearance hole. Overall length is 0.143", so the z-height above the board is that dimension minus the seated depth. Mounting hole diameter is 0.072" — the PCB drill size must match this for a press-fit of the flange. The flange diameter of 0.089" acts as a stop shoulder, so the socket seats at a consistent depth during hand or wave soldering. Socket depth is 0.130", which sets the pin insertion length for full contact wipe.
