What This Backshell Does in the CHAMP Series
The TE Connectivity 2-552008-1 is a two-piece backshell for the CHAMP series of 50-position connectors. The black PPO housing carries an integrated strain relief that clamps onto the cable jacket, so pull forces on the cable don't transfer to the crimp contacts inside the connector housing.
Strain Relief and Cable Retention
The strain relief hardware is built into the backshell — it's not a separate add-on. That means when you terminate the round cable to the 50-position CHAMP connector and then clamp this backshell over the assembly, the cable jacket is gripped inside the shell. Any yank on the cable gets absorbed by the backshell, not by the individual crimp terminals. For a 50-position cable bundle, that matters: the cumulative pull-out force on all those contacts adds up fast if the backshell weren't there.
Material and Build
The backshell is unshielded, so it's strictly for mechanical cable management and strain relief, not for EMI/RFI containment. If you need a shielded version for a noisy environment, that's a different CHAMP backshell variant. Color is black, which is the standard for this series and makes field identification straightforward against a panel full of connectors.
