What This SFP+ Cage with Heat Sink Does
The TE Connectivity 2007464-1 is an SFP+ cage with an integrated heat sink, designed to house SFP+ transceiver modules and manage the thermal load of 10 Gbps and higher data-rate optics. The EMI shielding built into the cage contains the radiated emissions from the high-speed serial link. The heat sink is part of the cage body, not a clip-on afterthought, so the thermal path from the module's top surface to ambient is direct and repeatable across the assembly line.
Press-fit means the cage is pressed into the PCB — the compliant pin geometry creates a gas-tight joint without solder. That matters for two reasons: the assembly line skips the wave solder station for this component, and if a cage ever needs replacement, desoldering is not required. The through-hole, right-angle mounting sets the cage perpendicular to the board; the footprint must clear the heat sink fins above the PCB. Board layout engineers should verify the keep-out zone for the heat sink height and the press-fit pin tail length against the opposite-side components.
