The 204219-1 accepts 16-18 AWG stranded or solid wire. The crimp barrel is designed for a standard open-barrel crimp — the insulation and conductor crimp sections are separate, so the wire jacket is clamped independently from the conductor strands. This prevents strand breakage at the crimp transition and gives a consistent pull-off force. A proper crimp tool (such as a TE-certified hand tool or a pneumatic applicator for the Multimate II contact family) is required to achieve the specified crimp height and pull strength.
The gold also resists corrosion in mildly aggressive atmospheres (industrial cabinets, control panels) better than tin-plated contacts would.
Both contacts are loaded into standard Multimate II housings — the pin into the male plug cavity, the socket into the female receptacle cavity. The series uses a common cavity geometry across multiple circuit sizes (from 2 to 24 positions), so this single contact fits any Multimate II housing that accepts a size-16 contact. Verify the housing part number against the cavity layout before committing to a full harness build.
