It's the crimp-type pin that goes into the rear of the HDP-20 plastic or metal shell housings — the one you terminate onto the wire before loading into the insert. If you're building a harness that will see field service or test-bench reconnections, the gold thickness here saves you from fretting corrosion down the line.
Wire Sizing and Crimp Fit
This contact accepts 20-24 AWG stranded wire — the sweet spot for signal-level D-sub wiring in control cabinets, serial data links, and instrumentation harnesses. The stamped barrel crimps onto the stripped conductor and the insulation support crimps onto the jacket. You'll need a proper HDP-20 crimp tool frame and die set (TE part number 539075-1 or equivalent) to get the crimp height right; a generic ratchet crimper won't hold the contact alignment. The brass body with gold flash gives good conductivity without the cost of a machined contact — fine for signal circuits where you're not pushing more than a few amps per pin.
Housing Compatibility and Mating
The 205202-2 loads into any standard AMPLIMITE HDP-20 housing — the 9, 15, 25, 37, and 50-position plug and receptacle shells. The stamped pin has the same retention lance geometry as the machined version, so it locks into the same cavity positions.
