What This Keying Plug Prevents
The TE Connectivity 207654-1 is a keying plug for the Metrimate series of rectangular industrial connectors. Its job is to block the wrong housing from mating — you insert it into the unused cavity positions of a receptacle or plug to create a mechanical interference pattern that only the intended mating half can engage. This is the accessory you reach for when a panel has multiple Metrimate connectors of the same shell size and you need to guarantee the harness only reaches the right port.
The 207654-1 is the standard Metrimate keying plug. The sibling 200821-1 serves the same function but is specified for size 16 and 20 cavities within the M series — a different cavity diameter range. If your housing uses size 16 or 20 contacts, the 200821-1 is the correct fit; for the standard Metrimate cavity, the 207654-1 is the part. Both are active and ROHS3 compliant.
Installation Note
Installation is straightforward: push the keying plug into the empty cavity of the Metrimate housing until the retention barb seats. No tool is required. The plug occupies the cavity position permanently — it is not designed for removal and reinsertion. Confirm the cavity pattern on your housing drawing before placing the plug.
