Single-Wire IDC Termination for 18 AWG
It belongs to a family of feed-through IDC connectors designed for point-to-point wiring where a multi-position header would be overkill — think sensor leads, power jumpers, or ground straps that need a clean SMD anchor. The natural housing and tin-plated contact keep the part cost low for high-volume builds.
1 Position vs 16 Positions — Why the Circuit Count Matters
The 2106431-1 carries 1 position against the 16 positions of the 1-216791-6 from the same TE IDC family. That single-position count is the defining spec: this is not a ribbon-cable header for parallel data lines but a discrete wire termination point. The 1-216791-6 is a through-hole, press-fit DIP header for 0.050" pitch ribbon cable — a different assembly method and a different board footprint. The 2106431-1 serves the job of landing one wire per component, not sixteen.
SMD Right-Angle Mount — Board Layout Fit
The feed-through feature lets the wire pass through the housing and terminate on the far side, keeping the SMD pad area clear for inspection. The Tape & Reel packaging supports automated pick-and-place for the reflow line.
