Five contacts, gold-plated, with a splash-proof rating that keeps moisture out of the port on a device that sees occasional rain or a wet pocket.
What the 10000 Mating Cycles Mean for Your Build
The gold finish on the contacts lets this receptacle survive 10000 mating cycles without wearing through to the base metal.
Current Rating — It's Not One Number
The spec lists three current ratings: 0.5 A, 1 A, and 1.8 A. That's per-pin limits depending on which contacts carry power and how many are paralleled. In a standard USB micro B, the VBUS and GND pins take the load — 1.8 A is enough for fast charging on a phone or tablet. The 0.5 A figure applies to the data pins, which aren't designed for power delivery. Stay within the pin assignment and you won't hit the temperature rise ceiling of the housing.
Surface-mount right-angle, with solder retention features and a pick-and-place pad for automated assembly. The steel/stainless shell provides shielding and mechanical strength for the mating cycle.
