8p8c Shielded Jack, Right-Angle SMT, Cat5
The housing is glass-filled LCP.
Cat5 Rating and the Frequency Ceiling
The Cat5 rating means the jack is characterized to 100 MHz and meets the insertion loss, return loss, and near-end crosstalk limits defined in TIA/EIA-568-B. For 100BASE-TX or 1000BASE-T at distances up to 100 metres, this is the correct performance tier. It is not rated for Cat6 (250 MHz) or Cat6a (500 MHz) — if the link requires higher bandwidth, choose a jack specified to that category. The shielding helps preserve the signal-to-noise ratio in electrically noisy enclosures, but the Cat5 channel limit remains the bottleneck.
Board Fit and Assembly Details
The tab direction is up, meaning the latching face of the RJ45 plug faces upward when the jack is mounted on the top side of the board. No LED is integrated; if a link/activity indicator is needed, it must be added externally.
