Press-Fit QSFP28 Cage, Ganged 1x2
The TE Connectivity 2227104-1 is a QSFP28 cage in a ganged 1x2 configuration — two QSFP28 module positions side by side in a single shielded enclosure. It terminates via press-fit pins into a through-hole, right-angle PCB layout, which means the cage mounts flush to the board edge and the press-fit tails cold-form into the plated through-holes without a solder wave. The EMI shielding built into the cage is essential for containing radiated emissions from 25 Gbps and 100 Gbps SerDes lanes; without it, the module-to-host interface would radiate well above Class A limits.
Board Assembly and Mechanical Fit
Press-fit termination eliminates the thermal stress of reflow on the cage and the nearby PCB vias — a real advantage when the board carries dense routing under the cage footprint. The ganged 1x2 layout shares a common shield wall between the two ports, saving board space compared to two individual cages side by side.
