The TE Connectivity 2291579-1 is a zSFP+ cage — the metal enclosure that houses an SFP+ transceiver module on a line card or switch fabric board. The cage is EMI Shielded, forming a continuous metal envelope around the module to contain radiated emissions.
Press-fit termination eliminates the solder joint at the PCB interface. The compliant pin geometry — fish-eye or needle-eye style — deforms elastically as it enters the plated hole, creating a gas-tight mechanical and electrical connection. The PCB footprint must include the correct plated through-hole diameter for the compliant pin — typically specified in the TE application drawing — and the board stack-up must accommodate the pin length protruding beyond the bottom side.
For current designs, this removes the obsolescence risk that sometimes affects older SFP cage families.
