The TE Connectivity Buchanan 282847-5 is a 5-position, single-level PCB-mount terminal block on a 0.200" (5.08mm) pitch. It terminates wires via a rising cage clamp — the screw pushes a clamp plate down onto the conductor, not the wire itself — which gives a gas-tight connection without nicking strands. Why the 35° wire entry matters for your board layout
This block orients the wire entry at a 35° angle relative to the PCB (145° from the opposite side). The 17.5 A rating is per position at the rated voltage, but the real current capacity depends on the wire gauge you land and the ambient temperature inside the enclosure. At 12 AWG the block can carry the full 17.5 A with acceptable temperature rise; step down to 30 AWG and the wire itself becomes the fuse. The rising cage clamp grips the full conductor cross-section — no cold flow creep like a wire-wrap or screw-point termination. Contact material is brass with tin plating, which is adequate for the cycle count of a typical field-wired terminal block (not a high-mating-cycle connector).
