Two-Position Poke-In Plug for Inline Wiring
The TE Connectivity LIGHT-N-LOK 2834048-2 is a 2-position plug designed for cable-to-cable inline connections. It uses a poke-in termination — strip the wire, push it in, and the contact grabs it — no crimp tool required for the wire itself. Rated for 16-22 AWG wire, the contacts are tin-plated copper alloy, and the thermoplastic body is black.
Wire Gauge and Current — Two Ratings, One Decision
This connector carries a dual current rating: 3A and 8A per circuit. The lower figure is the continuous-duty limit at the full 125°C operating temperature; the 8A rating applies at lower ambient or with larger wire (16 AWG) that sinks more heat. For a harness designer, that means the 3A figure is the safe default for a 22 AWG wire in a warm enclosure, while 8A is achievable with 16 AWG and good airflow. The 600V voltage rating is generous for a 2-position inline plug — it covers industrial control voltages and LED lighting feeds without creepage concerns.
Rated for 10 mating cycles, this is a set-and-forget connector — not designed for repeated disconnect/reconnect in field service. The tin plating on the contacts wears with each mate, and after ten cycles the contact resistance may drift. For a permanent harness splice or a one-time factory connection, that's fine. If you need a connector that gets unplugged weekly, look at a gold-plated alternative with higher cycle life.
