5-position plug for 3.50mm pitch terminal blocks
The 284506-5 is a 5-position plug from the TE Connectivity Buchanan series, terminated via a screw rising cage clamp. It mates with a matching 3.50mm pitch header, making it the cable-side half of a wire-to-board connection.
Termination and torque discipline
The screw rising cage clamp accepts 14–30 AWG (0.05–2 mm²) wire with a strip length of 5–6 mm. The M2 screw torque is specified at 0.31 Nm (2.7 Lb-In) — exceeding this risks stripping the PA66 housing threads. The contact mating finish is tin, rated for standard industrial environments; for high-cycle or corrosive conditions, consider a gold-plated variant.
Side stacking and multi-level builds
The side stacking feature allows adjacent plugs to lock together without additional brackets, forming a multi-position assembly. This is useful when the header is a multi-level block — each plug aligns and stacks on the side of the next. The 180° wire entry keeps the cable path straight, simplifying routing in tight enclosures.
