34-Position DIP Header for Ribbon-Cable IDC Termination
The TE Connectivity AMP-Latch 3-216791-4 is a 34-position DIP header designed for mass-termination IDC (insulation displacement contact) to 0.050" pitch ribbon cable. It carries two rows on a 0.100" row spacing, matching the standard footprint for a 34-conductor ribbon cable assembly. The board-side pitch is also 0.100", so it plugs into a standard 0.100" header footprint on the PCB. This is the fully loaded 34-position variant — every position is populated, no skipped contacts. Termination is through-hole press-fit, meaning the header is pressed into plated through-holes without solder. That suits backplane or high-reliability builds where solderless assembly and rework are preferred. The tin contact finish keeps cost down for connections that mate once and stay put — not for frequent disconnect cycles. The gray housing includes a feed-through feature, which lets ribbon cable pass through the header to daisy-chain to another connector downstream — useful for signal routing in a harness without a separate breakout.
Pitch Check: Cable vs Board
The cable pitch is 0.050" (1.27 mm) — this is the spacing between ribbon conductors. The header transitions the tight ribbon pitch to the wider PCB layout. If your ribbon cable is 0.050" pitch and you need 34 conductors, this header is the match. A 0.025" pitch ribbon would not align — the IDC contacts would bite between conductors.
