MTA-156 IDC Receptacle, 9 Positions, 0.156" Pitch
The TE Connectivity 3-640428-9 is a 9-position IDC receptacle in the MTA-156 series, terminated to discrete or ribbon cable. The 0.156" (3.96mm) pitch is the standard spacing for this series, matching the footprint of the mating header pins. The single-row, closed-end housing accepts 22 AWG wire and uses a locking ramp to hold the mated pair together under vibration — a detail that matters when this connector lives in a control cabinet or on a moving assembly. Tin contacts with 80.0µin (2.03µm) plating are rated for cost-sensitive signal-level duty where the connector sees a limited number of mating cycles. The closed-end feature stops the cable from pushing through the back of the housing during IDC termination, which saves a rework step on the harness bench.
Mating Half and Harness Fit
This receptacle mates with the matching MTA-156 pin header — the same 0.156" pitch, same 9 positions, single row. The locking ramp on the receptacle engages the ramp on the header to prevent accidental unmating. For a complete spare kit, stock both halves or neither; an orphan receptacle on the shelf is dead stock until its header arrives. Wire gauge is fixed at 22 AWG for the IDC termination — the slot width in the insulation displacement contact is sized for that diameter. The connector does not accept 18 AWG wire; the IDC slot will not cut through the thicker insulation reliably.
