MTA-100 2-Position IDC Receptacle — Wire-to-Board Harness Fit
The TE Connectivity 3-640440-2 is a 2-position MTA-100 receptacle designed for mass-termination of discrete or ribbon cable to a 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch header. The IDC slot is cut for 22 AWG wire only — no range, no adjustment. The closed-end design blocks the last cavity, preventing reverse insertion of the mating header.
Wiring — 22 AWG Only, No Range
This IDC receptacle accepts 22 AWG wire — that is the single supported gauge. The insulation displacement slot is sized for that conductor diameter; forcing a different gauge risks an open or intermittent connection. The wire type can be discrete or ribbon cable, but the gauge is fixed.
Tin Plating — Duty Cycle Context
It suits permanent or infrequent-mate harnesses where cost per position drives the choice. For applications requiring frequent disconnect or corrosive environments, a gold-plated MTA-100 variant would be the better call.
