MTA-100 IDC Receptacle, 3 Positions, Closed End
The TE Connectivity 3-640440-3 is a 3-position IDC receptacle from the MTA-100 series, designed for discrete or ribbon cable termination at 0.100" (2.54 mm) pitch. It accepts 22 AWG wire and terminates via insulation displacement, eliminating the need for crimp tools on each contact. The closed-end design acts as a wire stop and provides a clean cable face, which is useful when the harness sees repeated handling or the wire bundle needs to be ganged up against a panel. For a free-hanging right-angle mount, the locking ramp is the only retention mechanism, so the header side must have the mating latch feature for the assembly to lock. The thick tin layer handles the typical 25-50 mating cycles of an internal harness connector without fretting corrosion, provided the environment stays dry and low-temperature. For corrosive atmospheres or high-cycle field servicing, a gold-plated variant of the MTA-100 receptacle would be the better call, but for most panel-to-board wiring inside an enclosure, the tin is the cost-effective choice.
No stripping, no crimping. The 22 AWG wire gauge is the only size this housing is tooled for — 20 or 24 AWG will not terminate reliably in the IDC slot.
