What This Connector Is
The TE Connectivity 3-641238-5 is a 5-position, single-row IDC receptacle from the MTA-100 series. It terminates 24 AWG discrete or ribbon cable without stripping or crimping — the insulation-piercing contacts bite through the jacket in one press operation. The 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch matches the standard MTA-100 header footprint, and the white housing with a closed end prevents stubbing during assembly.
Termination and Mating
Termination is IDC — the cable is pressed into the slot, and the contacts pierce the insulation. The free-hanging, right-angle mounting lets the cable exit parallel to the board edge, useful in tight enclosures. A locking ramp on the housing provides positive retention against vibration when mated with the matching MTA-100 header.
Contact Plating and Duty
The female socket contacts carry 30.0µin (0.76µm) gold plating. That thickness supports repeated mating cycles — typical for field-serviceable harnesses or test fixtures where the connector is unmated several times over its life. Gold also resists corrosion in humid or mildly aggressive environments better than tin.
