Product details

MTA-156 IDC Plug for Discrete or Ribbon Cable

The 0.156" (3.96mm) pitch gives enough spacing for the 18 AWG wire without crowding the IDC slots — the insulation displacement blades pierce the jacket and grip the conductor in one stroke. The orange closed-end housing is a single-row free-hanging design with a right-angle cable exit, so it routes the wire parallel to the board edge or along a harness bundle.

IDC termination means no stripping or crimping — the 18 AWG wire is laid into the slot and the cover pressed down. The tin-plated contacts carry an 80.0µin (2.03µm) finish, thick enough for repeated insertion into the matching MTA-156 header without galling. The closed-end feature blocks the last slot, so the wire stops at the correct depth and the IDC tines engage the full conductor cross-section.

Frequently asked questions

Does 3-641435-2 work with 18 AWG wire?

Yes, the 3-641435-2 is specified for 18 AWG discrete or ribbon cable. The IDC termination is designed for that wire gauge, so the insulation displacement blades will pierce the jacket and make contact without adjustment.
