It terminates 24 AWG discrete or ribbon cable with an insulation displacement contact, meaning the wire is pressed onto a slotted contact beam — no stripping, no crimping. The 0.156" (3.96mm) pitch matches standard 0.156" ribbon cable conductor spacing, so watch pin-one alignment before you hit the press.
Tin Plating Thickness for IDC Reliability
That is a heavy tin layer, and it matters for an IDC termination: the sharp slot displaces the insulation and cold-welds the tin to the wire strands. A thicker tin coating gives a more consistent gas-tight joint across the full conductor bundle. For a 2-position plug that might see one or two mate cycles in its life, tin is the practical choice — gold would be overkill.
Mating with MTA-156 Headers
The header can be vertical or right-angle, through-hole or surface-mount, as long as it is a male pin header from the MTA-156 family. The closed-end feature on this plug means the housing is solid at the end opposite the wire entry, which prevents stubbing the header pins against an open cavity. Check that your header is also MTA-156 and 2-position; the pitch and keying must match.
