8-Position IDC Receptacle for Discrete or Ribbon Cable
The TE 3-641534-8 is an 8-position MTA-100 IDC receptacle, designed for mass-termination of discrete or ribbon cable without stripping or crimping.
Closed End and Locking Ramp — Harness Fit
This is a closed-end receptacle, meaning the last position is blocked — the cable inserts only as far as the number of circuits, preventing partial insertion and ensuring the IDC slots align with the conductors. The locking ramp provides audible and tactile latch engagement with the mating header, giving positive retention in moderate-vibration environments like appliance or HVAC harnesses. The red housing colour is a visual key on the line — it distinguishes this 8-position variant from other MTA-100 position counts in a multi-harness build.
Wiring — 22 AWG Only, IDC Termination
The IDC slots are sized for 22 AWG wire — the insulation displacement blades are gapped for that specific conductor diameter. Using 24 AWG risks an intermittent connection because the wire is too thin to be fully captured by the slot; the contact beam won't bite deep enough for a gas-tight joint.
