Pitch and the Ribbon — Why 0.100" Matters
The TE Connectivity MTA-100 3-641653-3 is a 3-position IDC receptacle built for mass-termination onto discrete or ribbon cable. The single-row, 3-position layout keeps the assembly narrow, and the red housing gives a quick visual check that pin-one is oriented right before the press comes down.
IDC Termination — One Press, No Stripping
Cable termination is IDC — insulation displacement. You run the 22 AWG wire (discrete or ribbon) into the slot and press. The contact tines slice through the insulation and grip the conductor. No stripping, no crimping, no loose terminals to feed.
Contact Plating — Heavy Tin for the Duty
If your design calls for frequent reconnection or a corrosive environment, you would step up to gold-plated MTA-100 variants. For a one-time harness assembly that mates once and stays, this tin thickness is more than adequate.
