What This Connector Is
The TE Connectivity 3-643814-9 is a 9-position IDC receptacle from the MTA-100 series. It terminates 24 AWG discrete or ribbon cable with an insulation displacement contact (IDC) — no wire stripping or crimping needed. A white closed-end housing with a locking ramp secures the mate against vibration.
IDC Termination and Cable Prep
This receptacle accepts 24 AWG wire and terminates via IDC — the contact pierces the insulation when the cover is pressed down. It handles discrete wires or ribbon cable, so the same connector works for point-to-point runs or multi-conductor ribbon harnesses. The closed-end design blocks the last position, preventing a wire from being inserted where it shouldn't go.
Mounting and Mating
The receptacle mounts free-hanging (in-line) or at a right angle, giving flexibility for cable exit direction inside a panel or chassis.
